Silver Maples Residents Tell Their Stories

Elinor

Before we began our tour, I was prepared to end it with a smile and an “Okay, that’s nice, now let’s go home.” But the place just stole my heart. ... What clinched it for me was walking into the apartment that is now mine. I literally gasped – it felt so much like home!

My husband and I heard of Silver Maples several years ago. We briefly entertained the idea of moving here. But Bob was not ready, so I put the idea on the shelf.

Then Bob died, and I was left with all the household chores that he had done, along with all the “stuff” I already did. I decided to downsize my house as a result. I gave things I had no use for to my children and grandchildren. I thought I was doing really well. But my daughters thought differently. In their opinion, breaking one’s hip and falling out of bed in the middle of the night is not “doing well.” Neither is refusing to use your home security system because you’re afraid responders will break down your door. My daughters let me know they were worried about me.

One day, one of my daughters suggested we visit Silver Maples. Before we began our tour, I was prepared to end it with a smile and an “Okay, that’s nice, now let’s go home.” But the place just stole my heart.

I had already told my girls that if I ever moved, it would be to a place that 1) respected my independence, 2) made me feel secure, 3) served three meals a day – on tablecloths, 4) offered pretty scenery, and 5) was full of congenial people. Silver Maples delivered on all counts. The residents, staff, and even the “cooks and bottle washers” are all wonderful here. I’ve not seen a dour face; everyone smiles and greets you by name. And it’s not just an act – they are genuinely friendly. They’re genuinely helpful, too. My daughters and I are secure in the knowledge that help is available within two minutes if anything bad should happen – like breaking a hip or falling out of bed!

What clinched it for me was walking into the apartment that is now mine. I literally gasped – it felt so much like home! So I decided to make the move. I sold my house the day it was listed. (Silver Maples can help you with a real estate agent, if you’d like.) I gave away a few more things to family members. But I pretty much transferred all the life memories from my previous home to Silver Maples. And Silver Maples is now home in every respect.
